Persuasive essay

My idea for the persuasive essay is the national debt and ways to cut our spending as a country. That former president's shouldn't get their salary for the rest of their life, neither should any politician. Things along that line.

What I said didn't matter

Seven years ago, I was the PTO president at my daughter's school. I only got the title because no one else wanted it. Most of these people really didn't know me, since I was new to town. As the president, my biggest concern was to raise money to get new playground equipment, since the current equipment was rusty, old, and unsafe. The new playground equipment was going to cost a lot of money. I fought hard to get permission to do a fundraiser, which was quite successful. We raised over $3000. Not bad for a town of only 800 people. I kept coming up with more fundraisers, but was turned down. I was told "this isn't Chicago. People here don't have money to keep doing this." I felt that they were wrong. That really underestimated their own community. Nothing that I said mattered. I talked to people in the town, all of whom said that they would be happy to support the school. But the superintendent didn't care. So, on my own time, and my own dime, I typed up a letter, added color pictures of the horrible playground equipment, made over 100 copies, and mailed them out to companies within a 50 mile radius. The response was overwhelming! By the end of the year, we had over $10,000 for the playground! I was very proud of myself, and very happy for the kids. The other PTO members, however, really didn't like the fact that I proved them wrong, and showed them up.

sentence variety

Sam got in her car and drove to the mall. While there, she went to the shoe store and bought a pair of boots and a shoeshine kit. Then she went to the food court where she bought a burrito with peppers and onions. While eating it, she saw a cute boy by the pretzel stand. She blushed as he looked at her. He walked over to her, but when she said hi, he wrinkled his nose. Confused, she said hi again. This time, he gagged and walked away, which shocked her. She suddenly realized that she had bad breath! Sam ran into the bathroom and cried. She put on her new boots, shined them, and confidently walked out of the bathroom. She found the boy, told him he needed manners, and kicked him with her new boots. As he fell to the ground, Sam walked away and left the mall.

strengths and weaknesses

To be perfectly honest, I don't think I have a strength in any part of writing. However, if I have to choose one, it would have to be paragraph breaks. I seem to be pretty good at that. I would have to say that my biggest weakness is choosing a suitable design. If I understood what I read correctly, this is an outline. When I write anything, I just write. If I attempt to make an outline, it makes it harder for me to write. I feel restricted. And I am absolutely horrible at coming up with that "topic sentence", or main statement that every paragraph should have.
Hopefully, during the revision of my paper, I will look at it a little differently, and be able to see better ways to write sentences.

blog #3

Pre-Algebra...7th grade...Mrs. Oseland. It was awful! This class was the first time in my academic history that I got below a B, and was horrified! I like to think that I am good at math, but this was an exception. For the first time, I was completely lost and had no idea what I was doing, and my teacher was absolutely no help. All she did was throw an example up on the chalkboard and give us our assignment. No explanation, no help, no nothing. When I would tell her that I didn't understand, all she did was write another example, and look at me like I was dumb. Still, no explanation. Needless to say I didn't pass the class with a high enough grade, and had to take it again in 8th grade. Probably the best thing that could have happened to me! After that, it all made so much more sense to me!

blog post 2

I kept a notebook when my oldest daughter was born. I did it more for my daughter, for her to read when she has her first baby, and maybe it will help her. It was also to get out some feelings that I needed to get out, kind of likie when I was a teenager with my diary. To talk about things that I didn't feel I could talk to anyone about. And in some weird way, it made me feel better.

Im new to this!

My name is Sarah Kelley. I am a 34 year old (at least I will be Sunday) mom of three amazing kids. I work full time and go to school full time. I am a CJ major and am in my junior year. I have never blogged before, so this is very new to me. This is my second time taking this class, as I had a rather rough semester last spring. In my free time, I play pool on both an 8 and 9 ball team, and I sing karaoke when I get the chance. Anyway, that's me! I just hope I did this right! :-)
